Recipes : Thai Red Curry

Off the topic of beauty a little, I decided to mix it up a tad and add some recipes into the equation.

Thai red curry is one of my all time favourite meals, I love the coconut flavours and creamy-ness to it, with a bit of extra kick from the red chillis. It’s pretty simple to cook as well and this has become a firm favourite of mine. With cooking, I’m not one to measure things exact, in fact I kind of just chuck it all in and hope for the best, and alter recipes to how I want them. I think that’s what creates the fun in creating new meals..

Before I get started though, I am definitely not a chef and I am not thai! This is just my take on a recipe, using cheaper ingredients for the every day working person to be able to have time and money to create.

Here’s what you will need!

  • Coconut Milk – I use around half a tin, but you can use however much you like, depending on how creamy you want it to be. But 300ml is what is recommended.
  • 1 red Chilli – Finely Chopped and de-seeded
  • 1 Small Onion – Finely Chopped
  • Chicken breasts (how much, depending on how many you are cooking for) diced up or whole if you fancy!
  • Thai Fish Sauce – 4 teaspoons
  • Thai Red Curry Paste – 3-4 tablespoons
  • Sugar – 1 teaspoon
  • Vegetable Oil – 2 teaspoons
  • Corriander – Handful if required – Leaves cut finely

What you need to do:

  • Heat the oil in a large frying pan and add the onions in and cook on a gentle heat, stirring for about 3 minutes or until soft.

  • Add the red curry paste and heat for another 2 minutes.
  • Add the chicken to the frying pan/wok stir in well and then fry for 3 minutes. Pour and stir in the coconut milk and bring to the boil, turn down the heat once boiling and simmer on a lower heat, cooking the curry gently. Stir occasionally and cook for 10 minutes or until the chicken is cooked and the sauce is thick.
  • Stir in the fish sauce, sugar and chilli. If required, add in half the coriander and mix in (I forgot to add it in mine!).

  • Serve with rice (I served with chips too cause I’m a fatty!) and the other half of the coriander on top.

A Bit Of Va Va Voom For Your Wardrobe..

I happened to come across a lovely and  unique clothing store on twitter not so long ago, called Veuxdoo!

They turn vintage clothing into modern garments with a twist and their accessories are eye-catching to say the least, something I love about them! I had to actually stop myself from going a bit mental with the purchase button and contain myself to only buy two items. Of course, when pay-day comes, you can guarantee I will be back on there snooping for more purchases and watching my bank balance decrease.

You never really know what to expect when it comes to a new store, especially when it’s online, but when I received my goodies, I was extremely impressed with the quality. The T-Shirt is nice and thick and just the right fit, and the necklace chain, considering the price, is sturdy and doesn’t feel cheap at all. This resulted in a very pleased me!

I went for the army print baggy t-shirt, as I thought it would look cool for a casual look, with leggins or disco pants, paired with creepers! And it does look perfect matched together, thanks Veuxdoo, you beauties!

I also chose the Hamsa Hand black necklace which I absolutely love, it goes perfectly with a white crop top or even with the army t-shirt. An absolute treat! My order arrived so quickly which I was really thankful for, as they packed and sent them off themselves that weekend. Another thing to rave about is their customer service, they seem like genuinely lovely people and take the time to reply back to you and ask you if you like your order. You don’t get that kinda service with larger brands!

Check these guys out if you are looking for something different, with a bit of quirky edgy-ness to it. I think you will be drawn in quickly, just like I was…but don’t blame me when your a bit skint after visiting…

For The Love Of Chanel…

Chanel are known for their extremely high quality lipsticks and I am not one to disagree. I only have a small collection (two) but, they are enough to make me fall for their charms and rope me in. I am a big MAC lipstick lover, as explained in my previous post, but Chanel easily rivals that passion.

The shades I have are Excentrique from the Rouge Allure range and Chalys from the Rouge Coco Hydrating Crème lip colour range. Both swaying on the coral/orange side and both absolutely gorgeous! They feel really comfortable to wear on the lips and I haven’t noticed any issues with bleeding, which is a treat for any lipstick lover. The colour range from Chanel is also something to marvel, but creates the hard choice of deciding which one you want to go for..oh, first world problems hey!

*First row of pictures is  Excentrique a bright orange and second row is Chalys, a bright coral

And then there is the packaging. Ahh – the sleek black and gold design, with those most lusted after CC’s. Extremely classy for a not so classy bird like myself! The Rouge Allure range has the click and pop out method, which creates a lot of pleasure for a bit of a weirdo like myself. Get one and try it, you’ll see what I mean! And then there is the added extra of the CHANEL embedded onto the lipstick itself, causing the dilemma of not actually wanting to use it, just so you can keep the ever so perfect look about it. I sound a bit of a geek there, but they really are a pleasure to have tucked neatly into your handbag, with the happiness you feel when you whack it out (oo-er!) and apply.

Overall, Chanel get a 10 out of 10 from me for their lipsticks, elegant, pigmented and pretty! What more could a girl want? (A lot more lipsticks in my case).

My Favourite MAC Lipsticks..

Every now and again I like to go through my MAC lippy collection and admire the sheer beauty of them (I am a MAC lipstick enthusiast, in case you couldn’t tell!).

I started collecting them last year, when I was finally earning enough money to justify the thought of paying £14 for a lipstick. Back then I wasn’t that obsessed with makeup and stuck to high street brands. Now, I’m a high-end lover, with a passion for splashing out on a luxury lippy every now and again (every pay-day!).

When taking a peek at what colour I felt like wearing today, I thought it would be a nice idea to show you some of my faves that I wear more so than the others, so enough of me waffling and more of some full on lipstick loving action!

Creme Cup

Creme Cup is the newest out of the collection but has to be my favourite yet. It’s a gorgeous, nudey pink that gives a gorgeous girly sheen to the lips. This is my every day lippy that’s perfect for work, as it isn’t too much. It goes with practically any look as well, especially a smokey eye! Creme Cup is a cremesheen finish, which means it has a much creamier consistency than the other MAC lipsticks. They are really comfortable to wear, but don’t tend to last as long on the lips due to the formula.

Speed Dial

Speed Dial is another pink, but this time with a slightly deeper undertone. I love this for both day time and night-time and it’s a really versatile and easy to wear colour. Again, this is a cremesheen (my fave!).

Ruby Woo

Ahh, Ruby Woo. Who doesn’t love this one? It’s a gorgeous red with blue undertones, so perfect for those with cool toned. It’s a gorgeous, elegant red, that is actually very wearable seeing as it’s a red. This is a matte finish, so it is pretty drying. If you have very dry lips, you will need to lip balm them up beforehand. But, nevertheless, it’s a beauty.

Girl About Town

Girl About Town is a lovely fuchsia pink! Which I have snapped up as my night out lipstick. This lasts for absolute ages on the lips too, so even more so of a reason to wear on a night out. I lovee this one. It is an Amplified finish, another fave of mine, as the colours are extremely pigmented and the formula feels nice on the lips. Bonus!

Costa Chic

And last but certainly not least, is Costa Chic. I am a sucker for anything coral coloured and this satisfies that need brilliantly. I love the 80’s feel about it, and it is the perfect summer shade. If you like bright, coral lipsticks, then you will like this! It is a frost finish, so not the boldest formula, but with this colour, you don’t need it anymore bold!

So, there’s a few of my favourite MAC lipsticks, what are yours?

Confessions of a Shopoholic Tag

Hello! So the lovely Kate from intothestratosphere tagged me in the Confessions of a Shopoholic Tag the other day, so I thought it would be fun to join in! Here are the questions and answers below…

Would you consider yourself a shopoholic?

Yes! But more with online shopping as I live in a little town with only hairdressers and the occasional decent charity shop! As soon as pay day comes I am browsing online, spending pennies like there is no tomorrow. It’s quite dangerous really!

How would you classify your style?

I don’t really know? I never really followed fashion and I guess I kind of do more so now, but I have never been one to want to look like everyone one else. I say my style can vary to whatever I feel like, from Grungy to Girly. I wear whatever I feel looks good really. I like to mix and match!

What store can you not leave without buying something from?

Topshop, that’s why I hardly ever go in there when the bank balance is a little low! With makeup, if I’m a bit skint I have to literally divert myself from Boots or Superdrug because I am guaranteed to always stop and stare and end up buying something I don’t actually need. I think every girl does that though!

Where do you find your best deals?

Urm…that’s a hard one really! I guess I am always sure to find something cheap but lovely in H&M, plus they have really good affordable basics in there.

What designer are you willing to splurge on?

I have to admit, I’m not really a designer kinda gal! I tend to spend my money more on makeup than fashion, but I have always longed for a Chanel handbag. So, if I ever have enough money to splash on one, I probably will!

Do you have a go-to shopping outfit?

Nope not really, just something casual and comfy, as I tend to get pretty stressed and flustered every time I go shopping haha!

What is your guilty pleasure?

Anything that’s pretty and I’m onto it! But, makeup…every pay day is spent searching for new purchases!

What is the one piece of clothing you can’t live without?

A long vest black top, sounds boring but I literally wear it with everything, as an alternative to a skirt with leggins. So if the top isn’t long enough to wear with the leggins, I will pair it with a long black vest top underneath.

Who is your style icon?

I don’t really have a style icon as such, but I do really like Alexa Chungs style, casual but chic! I like anyone who has individual style and isn’t afraid to wear what they want, rather than what is in fashion right now.

Superdrug Haul!

Oopsy, I may have accidentally stumbled into Superdrug and purchased a few items. But…it’s okay because I haven’t done it for a while, so it was kind of expected to happen sooner or later…

I went in without really knowing what I wanted which is actually one of my main no-no’s usually, as I think you end up spending more. But, I restrained myself and bought only four items, which were things I kind of needed…not really needed, but kind of- ish.

What I Got:

Blistex Intensive Moisturiser Lib Balm £2.59

Rimmel Scandal Eyes Eyeliner in Nude £3.99

Garnier Ambre Solaire Light Self Tan Velvety Gel £6.84

Solait Pink Self Tan Gloves £1.31

I will do some reviews on these once I have used them, I’m a bit nervous about the self tan as I am a bit of a self tanner virgin and whenever I have attempted to create a golden glow before, I have ended up a streaky, embarrassing mess. So, wish me luck!
